AI agent
Train the AI on your content
Give the Chatisto AI agent your website, documents and text, choose its model, write its instructions and keep it from inventing links.
The AI agent answers only as well as the content you give it. Everything on this page lives in Settings → AI Chatbot.
Add knowledge
Website URL
Enter a page address and Chatisto reads your website. Each site shows a status: pending, processing, completed or failed. Start with the pages customers actually ask about: help center, FAQ, pricing, shipping and returns.
Websites change, so on paid plans Chatisto re-crawls them weekly by default. Change this under Keep website knowledge up to date (off, weekly or monthly). On any plan, click Refresh now after you update prices or policies (at most once every 3 hours). Re-crawled pages replace their older copies. Pages you removed from your site aren't removed from the knowledge base automatically. If the AI still quotes one, contact support@chatisto.com.
Files & Documents
Upload files and Chatisto extracts the text:
| Format | Notes |
|---|---|
| PDF, Word (DOCX), PowerPoint (PPTX) | Text is extracted with OCR, so scanned documents work too. Up to 50 MB and 1,000 pages per document. |
| Excel (XLSX, XLS) | Converted to text. |
| Images (PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP, AVIF, BMP) | Text in the image is read with OCR. |
| TXT, Markdown, CSV, HTML, XML | Used as-is. |
| ZIP | Unpacked, and each file inside is processed. |
Paste Text
For information that isn't written down anywhere public: return rules, delivery times per country, phone hours, internal policies you're happy for the AI to share.
Tip: Short, focused documents beat one giant file. "Shipping to the EU" is easier for the AI to find than page 47 of a handbook.
Test before you go live
Use the knowledge base search on the same page, and chat with your own widget. Ask the 10 questions your team gets most often. If an answer is wrong or missing, the content is usually missing or unclear, so add or fix it rather than rewording the instructions.
Choose a model
| Model | Credits per reply | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Haiku 5.5 (default) | 1 | Fast, accurate answers. The right choice for most support. |
| GPT-6 Luna | 0.5 | High volume, simple questions. |
| Claude Sonnet 5.5 | 2 | Complex products, long documents, multi-step questions. |
| GPT-6.1 Sol | 2 | Alternative to Sonnet. |
| Claude Opus 5.5 | 4 | The hardest questions, where accuracy matters most. |
On the Free plan you can pick Claude Haiku 5.5 or GPT-6 Luna. If a provider is temporarily down, Chatisto automatically retries with another model.
Instructions (behavior and identity)
Instructions tell the AI who it is and how to behave. You can keep several named instructions and switch which one is active. Without your own, Chatisto uses a safe default: answer only from your content, keep it short, and always give full links.
Good instructions are short and specific:
You are the support assistant for Acme Coffee.
Answer in the customer's language. Keep replies under 4 sentences.
Never promise refunds; for refund requests, use the refunds skill.
If you're not sure, say so and offer to connect a human.
For step-by-step procedures (refunds, order changes, booking), use Agent skills instead of making the instructions longer.
Stop invented links
Turn on link filtering to remove any link the AI writes that isn't on your allow list. You can allow whole domains (your website is suggested) or specific URLs, and choose whether email addresses and phone numbers are allowed. Strict mode removes everything that isn't explicitly allowed.
What the AI can do in a conversation
Inside a scenario's AI step you can switch these on or off:
- Search the knowledge base: on by default.
- Save the visitor's email: when a visitor shares their email, it's saved to their contact.
- Hand off to a human: when it can't help or the visitor is frustrated (also controlled by AI can hand off to a human in Handoff & availability).
- Agent skills: your playbooks.
- Custom tools: call your own API, for example to look up an order status. You define the URL, method (GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, DELETE), headers, a body template with
{{parameter}}placeholders, and a timeout (1 to 30 seconds). Use the test panel to try a tool before enabling it.
AI credits
Every AI reply uses credits according to the model (table above). The AI credits this month counter on this page shows your usage. Credits reset each calendar month. See Plans & billing.
